What is the contact information for the HJWA office?

Where and when are the HJWA meetings, and how do I join?

The Historic Jackson Ward Association monthly business meetings are held the third Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, and November at 6:00 PM at UNOS, which is located at the corner of N. 2nd Street and Clay Street (501 N. 2nd St.) All are welcome! Membership dues are $15.00 for individuals and $25.00 for businesses, but you do not have to be a member to attend meetings. So, come join us and see what’s happening in Jackson Ward! If you would like to become a member via our online method, click here. If you would like to download and print the “Membership Application”, click on Membership Application. You can bring it to a meeting and give it to Vicki Mollenauer, HJWA Treasurer.

Where is the Black History Museum located?

How do I find the local libraries in the area?

The main branch of the Richmond Public Library system is located at 101 East Franklin Street, Richmond, VA 23219. You can call them at (804) 646-4256 or visit their website for details about their hours and other branches. Their website is http://rvalibrary.org/.

 

How do I report dilinquent structures/property in the area?

One effective way to have graffiti removed from personal property is to ask the owner of the property that’s been tagged by graffiti vandals to sign a release form authorizing the clean up on their property. Where can I direct someone who needs help for the homeless?

There are ten top organizations for homeless intervention and prevention in Richmond. They are as follows:

  • Daily Planet (804)783-0678. Operates free health care center in the area providing primary health care to the homeless, uninsured and underinsured regardless of their ability to pay. Daily Planet provides a 12 week job training and placement program to the unemployed homeless and offers at no charge to those in need: eye care, dental care, mental health and psychiatric care, laundry and shower facilities, case management, mail and substance abuse services.
  • Commonwealth Catholic Charities (804) 285-5900 or 1-800-528-1258. Provides Homeless Point of Entry, emergency food and financial assistance.
  • Homeward (804)343-2045. Clearinghouse and Coordinating Agency
  • Richmond Police Department Homeless Outreach Partnership Enforcement HOPE (804)646-4395.
  • Richmond Department of Social Services (804) 646-7212. Provides child, family, adult, employment and financial assistance services.
  • Freedom House (804) 233-4064. Shelter and access to all services.
  • The Salvation Army – Shelter and access to services.
  • CARITAS (804) 343-2045. Provides shelter-to-stability for the homeless.
  • Community Shelter (804) 232-1949. Shelter for residents and aid to address issues that led to their homelessness.

What is First Fridays, and how do I learn more about this monthly event?

First Fridays is Richmond’s cultural artwalk and is held each First Friday of the month. To find out more information about this popular event, go to http://www.rvafirstfridays.com/.

City Ordinance Regarding Cleaning Up After Your Dog

 Please follow the law, but, most of all, pick up after your dog as a kindness to your neighbors and to keep Jackson Ward a beautiful place to live. The Historic Jackson Ward Association has placed receptacles for bags around the neighborhood, and we encourage you to use them and then drop them in a city trash receptacle nearby. Please remember to do your part! Thanks!

How do I contact the Police Department?

How do I contact Public Utilities about Natural Gas,Water, or Public Street Light issues?

Bulk and Brush City Pick Up

 2018 New and Improved Bulk and Brush Pick Up Richmond Bulk & Brush Trash Disposal/Collection – Place bulk and/or brush out with trash on regularly scheduled recycling days! – Every two weeks! – No extra scheduling required! Bulk items include any refuse, other than an appliance or hazardous refuse, that does not fit into an empty mobile container or super can. Brush items include loose tree trimmings less than four inches in diameter, six feet in length; shrubbery trimmings; and, loose brush.

What if I’d like to Recycle?

The City of Richmond has contracted with The Central Virginia Waste Management Authority for pickup of our recyclables. Pick-ups are made every other week on the same day that regular trash is picked up. Website: http://cvwma.com/cvwma-locations/richmond/.

What if my home loses power?
